EP100 Conveyor Belt

CBC India's EP100 conveyor belt is the entry-level specification in the EP fabric-ply belting range engineered for medium-duty bulk material handling applications where operating tensions, haul distances, and material densities fall within the capacity envelope of a textile carcass construction and where the capital cost of steel cord belting is not justified by the duty cycle. The designation follows the established fabric belt classification framework: "E" identifies polyester warp fibres providing the primary tensile load path; "P" identifies polyamide nylon weft fibres delivering transverse flexibility and impact absorption; and "100" establishes the rated tensile strength at 100 Newtons per millimeter of belt width per DIN 22283 and ISO 283.

Construction

The EP100 carcass is built from 2–4 polyester-polyamide fabric plies, bonded through vulcanized rubber skim layers that transfer shear stress between plies while resisting inter-ply delamination under dynamic lump loading. This construction delivers measurably superior ply adhesion and impact resistance compared to NN nylon-nylon fabric alternatives — a direct consequence of polyester's lower elongation under tension, which reduces inter-ply shear movement and the delamination fatigue it generates. Standard belt widths run 500–1,200 mm with roll lengths up to 400 m per section. Total belt thickness ranges from 5–8 mm with a reference mass of 8–12 kg/m².

The top cover is specified at 2–3 mm in DIN Grade Y compound as standard, with heat-resistant formulations available for material temperatures up to 100°C, oil-resistant grades for contaminated material streams, flame-retardant variants compliant with ISO 284, and cold-resistant compounds rated to –30°C per DIN 22102. The bottom cover at 1–2 mm provides pulley friction resistance and flex fatigue protection at the tail and bend pulleys.

Performance

Working elongation remains below 4% at rated tension — significantly lower than cotton canvas constructions — reducing take-up travel requirements and enabling more consistent belt tracking across the conveyor's operating length. Minimum pulley diameters from 400 mm reflect the EP100's inherent flexibility, supporting standard idler and pulley configurations without specialised infrastructure. Operating speeds reach 5.0 m/s with volumetric capacities of 500–2,000 tonnes per hour across single-flight spans of 100–500 m. Against NN fabric belt alternatives at equivalent width and duty, the EP100 delivers 2–3 times greater impact resistance under lump material up to 150 mm, and reduces drive energy consumption by 20–30% through lower carcass mass.

Installation and Maintenance

Cold or hot-vulcanized splices achieve up to 90% joint efficiency — the practical maximum for fabric-ply belt constructions. Regular maintenance inspection focuses on top cover wear depth, edge fraying, and ply separation, assessed through visual gauging and cover thickness measurement. With correct alignment, edge sealing, and structured inspection intervals, EP100 belts deliver a service life of 3–7 years in quarry, coal stockpiling, port, power plant, and recycling facility applications — a demonstrable improvement over basic canvas constructions at a capital cost that remains well below the steel cord grades it complements within CBC India's full belting product range.
