EP150 conveyor belt

CBC India's EP150 conveyor belt is the next tensile step above the EP100 grade in the EP fabric-ply range specified for medium-to-heavy duty bulk material handling where operating tensions, span lengths, and material lump sizes exceed the EP100's rated capacity but where haul distances and capital budget remain within the practical envelope of a textile carcass construction. Per DIN 22283 and EN ISO 14890, the "150" designation establishes a rated tensile strength of 150 Newtons per millimeter of belt width, a 50% tensile increase over the EP100 that directly extends the EP150's application range into crusher discharge conveyors, inclined stackers, ship loaders, and primary handling circuits in cement plants and power stations.

Construction

The EP150 carcass is built from 3–5 polyester warp and polyamide nylon weft fabric plies, vulcanized with rubber skim layers between each ply to transfer inter-ply shear stress and resist delamination under the dynamic loading characteristic of lump material impact at primary transfer points. Standard designations EP150/3 for three-ply and EP150/4 for four-ply constructions define the carcass configuration for a given duty cycle, with ply count selected on the basis of required flexibility, minimum pulley diameter, and impact resistance class. Standard belt widths run 600–1,600 mm with roll lengths up to 500 m per section. Total belt thickness ranges from 8–12 mm with a reference mass of 10–15 kg/m².

The top cover is specified at 3–4 mm in DIN Grade Y or N compound depending on the abrasion profile of the conveyed material, with heat-resistant formulations available to 120°C, oil and chemical-resistant grades for contaminated or process material streams, flame-retardant variants compliant with ISO 284, and cold-flexible compounds rated to –40°C per DIN 22102. The bottom cover at 1.5–2.5 mm provides pulley friction resistance and flex fatigue protection across the full range of pulley diameters from 500 mm minimum.

Performance

Working elongation remains below 4% at rated operating tension, enabling longer conveyor center distances up to 800 m in single-flight configurations with reduced take-up travel requirements and consistent belt tracking without continuous manual adjustment. Against NN nylon-nylon fabric belt constructions at equivalent width and duty, the EP150 delivers impact resistance exceeding 3 times that of the NN alternative, with superior ply adhesion preventing the inter-ply delamination that is the primary in-service failure mode of lower-specification fabric constructions under 200 mm lump loading. Operating speeds reach 5.5 m/s with volumetric capacities of 1,000–3,000 tonnes per hour. Compared to steel cord belt grades at equivalent width, the EP150's lower carcass mass reduces drive energy consumption by approximately 25% a relevant economic consideration in applications where duty cycle does not require steel cord tensile ratings.

Installation and Maintenance

Hot-vulcanized splices using skive or finger methods achieve 90–95% joint efficiency, representing the practical ceiling for fabric-ply belt constructions and a meaningful improvement over cold-splice field repairs, which remain acceptable for temporary or low-tension service only. In-service inspection focuses on top cover wear depth measured by thickness gauge, ply adhesion integrity assessed through adhesion pull testing, and visual examination of splice condition and edge fraying. Edge bolsters protect against the lateral wear and ply exposure that shortens service life in misaligned or overloaded applications. With correct commissioning alignment, structured inspection intervals, and timely cover repair, EP150 belts deliver a service life of 4–8 years in mining, port, cement plant, power station, and recycling facility applications — positioning the EP150 as CBC India's specified fabric belt grade where the EP100 reaches its tensile and span limitations.
