EP300 conveyor belt

CBC India's EP300 conveyor belt is specified for heavy-duty bulk material handling where the EP250 grade reaches its tensile and span limitations under the system's actual operating tension, lump impact class, and conveyor center distance. Per DIN 22283 and EN ISO 14890, the "300" designation establishes a rated tensile strength of 300 Newtons per millimeter of belt width, a 20% tensile increase over the EP250 that extends the EP300's application range into primary and secondary crusher circuits, coal handling plants, and large-volume bulk terminals in cement facilities, power stations, and port operations where conveyor spans, material density, and throughput requirements place the EP250 outside its rated engineering envelope.

Construction

The EP300 carcass is built from 4–6 polyester warp and polyamide nylon weft fabric plies at 1.35 mm individual fabric thickness, vulcanized with rubber skim layers between each ply to transfer inter-ply shear stress and resist delamination under the dynamic impact loads associated with 350 mm lump material at primary loading and transfer points. Standard designations — EP300/3 and EP300/4 — define ply count for a given duty cycle, with configuration selected on the basis of required troughability, minimum pulley diameter, and impact resistance classification. Standard belt widths run 1,000–2,600 mm with roll lengths up to 1,000 m per section. Total belt thickness ranges from 14–20 mm with a reference mass of 18–25 kg/m².

The top cover is specified at 5–7 mm in DIN Grade Y compound with a minimum tensile strength of 20 MPa, with heat-resistant formulations available to 180°C, oil and chemical-resistant grades for fertilizer and steel sintering material streams, and flame-retardant variants compliant with ISO 284 for underground mining installations. Elongation at 10% stretch is limited to 2% per DIN 22102, reflecting the EP300's high-modulus carcass characteristics. The bottom cover at 2.5–3 mm provides pulley friction resistance and flex fatigue protection across pulley diameters from 800–1,000 mm minimum.

Performance

Working elongation remains below 4% at rated tension, enabling single-flight conveyor spans of 2.0–3.0 km with reduced take-up travel and consistent belt tracking. Against basic canvas belt constructions at equivalent width, the EP300 delivers 6 times the impact resistance under 350 mm lump loading, with robust ply-to-ply adhesion preventing the progressive delamination that defines lower-specification fabric belt failure in high-tonnage abrasive duty cycles. Operating speeds reach 7.0 m/s with volumetric capacities of 4,000–8,000 tonnes per hour. Compared to equivalent-width ST1250 steel cord belting, the EP300 carcass achieves a weight reduction of 40–50%, reducing drive power requirements by approximately 35% in applications where duty cycle remains within the fabric belt tensile envelope.

Installation and Maintenance

Multi-step finger hot-vulcanized splices achieve 95% joint efficiency — the upper performance limit for fabric-ply belt constructions. Cold splicing remains acceptable for emergency field repairs at reduced operating tension only. In-service inspection covers top cover abrasion depth via gauging, ply adhesion integrity through peel testing, and splice condition via X-ray examination at quarterly intervals. Belt sag is maintained at 1.0–1.5% through precise tensioning at commissioning, with edge bolsters and impact idler upgrades at primary loading points representing the highest-return maintenance interventions for service life extension.
