EP200 conveyor belt

CBC India's EP200 conveyor belt is the mid-range tensile specification in the EP fabric-ply series — engineered for heavy-duty bulk material handling where operating tensions, span lengths, and lump impact loads exceed the EP150 grade's rated envelope but where haul distances and system geometry remain within the practical limits of a textile carcass construction. Per DIN 22283 and EN ISO 14890, the "200" designation establishes a rated tensile strength of 200 Newtons per millimeter of belt width, a 33% tensile increase over the EP150 that extends the EP200's application range into crusher feeders, ship unloaders, stockpile reclaimers, and primary ore and coal handling circuits in steel mills and port terminals.

Construction

The EP200 carcass is built from 3–5 polyester warp and polyamide nylon weft fabric plies, vulcanized with rubber skim layers between each ply to transfer inter-ply shear stress and resist delamination under the dynamic impact loads characteristic of 250 mm lump material at primary loading points. Standard designations — EP200/3 and EP200/4 — define the ply count for a given duty cycle, with configuration selected on the basis of required flexibility, minimum pulley diameter, and impact resistance class. Standard belt widths run 800–2,000 mm with roll lengths up to 600 m per section. Total belt thickness ranges from 10–14 mm with a reference mass of 12–18 kg/m².

The top cover is specified at 4–5 mm in DIN Grade Y compound as standard, with heat-resistant formulations available to 140°C, oil and chemical-resistant grades for process and contaminated material applications, flame-retardant variants compliant with ISO 284, and cold-resistant compounds rated to –40°C per DIN 22102. The bottom cover at 2 mm provides pulley friction resistance and flex fatigue protection from the 630 mm minimum pulley diameter upward.

Performance

Working elongation remains below 4% at rated tension, enabling single-flight spans of 1.0–1.5 km with reduced take-up travel and consistent belt tracking. Against NN fabric belt constructions at equivalent width, the EP200 delivers 4 times the impact resistance under 250 mm lump loading, with superior ply adhesion preventing the inter-ply delamination that defines NN belt failure in heavy-duty applications. Operating speeds reach 6.0 m/s with volumetric capacities of 2,000–5,000 tonnes per hour. Compared to equivalent-width ST800 steel cord belting, the EP200 carcass is 40–50% lighter, reducing drive power requirements across the full conveyor system where duty cycle does not demand steel cord tensile ratings.

Installation and Maintenance

Finger or stepped hot-vulcanized splices achieve 90–95% joint efficiency — the practical performance ceiling for fabric-ply constructions. Cold vulcanization remains acceptable for field repairs at reduced tension service only. In-service inspection covers top cover wear depth via caliper measurement, ply adhesion integrity through pull testing, and visual examination of splice condition and edge fraying at structured intervals. Edge bolsters and correct commissioning tension prevent the lateral wear and ply exposure that accelerate service life reduction in misaligned applications.
